It’s been weeks into the new year and I can’t simply get the idea of goal setting off my mind. So I figured that should be my first new year message or may be I should call it sermon, this follows from my previous post on Facebook about reflection, our reflections and review of the last year helps us in goal Setting for a fresh year( the simple idea of knowing where you were and where you are now gives you a hint or a clearer mind to determine where you should be).

So what are your ideas about goal setting or what does goal setting mean to you? For me goal setting is a plan or an outline of what you want to achieve, this can be in Five years, one year, a day or in your job, life, academics and so on. Goal setting might be what we call our new year resolutions in disguise. Personally setting goals in every year is one thing that has helped me so much and a lot of people as well, most successful people are people who set goals and determine to achieve them, as a popular quote will say: if you don’t plan; you plan to fail, not setting goals leaves you going by the wind, you can be blown any where and you will be walking by the road of life clueless and numb.
Our goals can only be reached through a vehicle of a plan, in which we must fervently believe, and upon which we must vigorously act. There is no other route to success.
Pablo Picasso
Writing our goals is something we must consider, when we have goals we must learn to write it down and make it plain, when we write our goals is easier to go back to them and remind ourselves of it.

Importance of goal setting:
- By setting sharp, clearly defined goals, you can measure and take pride in the achievement of those goals
- Goal setting gives you focus and direction.
- Goal setting motivates you to pursue those goals.
- goal setting helps you beat procrastination.
- It gives you clarity of what you want to do with your life. e.t.c.
It is one thing to set goals and another to set workable, realistic and proper goals, in setting goals you can use the SMART Analysis. i.e your goals must be:
- S(Smart)
- M(measurable)
- A(Achievable)
- R(Realistic)
- T(times bound)
you can also start early to work on this goal. In achieving your goals you must be optimistic and positive about the goals, you must be determined at getting those goals no matter how challenging it might be. When you’ve achieved a goal, take the time to enjoy the satisfaction of having done so. Absorb the implications of the goal achievement, and observe the progress that you’ve made towards other goals.
It might seem late to start writing a goal for the year but its never too late to start a year properly, dare to write down goals you want to achieve this year and start working towards it.
