My grandmother a heroine defined
sucked in until she never breath out
a story mum graced without blinking
using her dreams, will, burning passion,
feistiness, her body and now soul as bricks
she built a reputation of submissiveness
while in every fist across her face
my grandfather dug this foundation
she sojourned the land beyond
her hands wide apart as her eyes
while a hero, she was his glorified ruin;
this was the past replaying itself
don’t talk about domestic violence
when culture defines it as masculinity!
a mask of insecurity!
a weapon of cowardice to show control!!
